On the early morning of Tuesday, April 30th, 2024, I arrived at my office at Sifa FM Voi and encountered a middle-aged man seated at the reception area. I greeted him warmly and welcomed him to the station, and he responded with a smile but was silent after that. Curious about his visit, I decided to invite him into my office.
Once settled, I noticed he continued to smile, prompting me to greet him again. This time, he explained that he had a hearing impairment and had no hearing device, so he needed me to project my voice for him to hear me clearly. Our conversation continued with me raising my voice to accommodate his needs.
“I’m Jonathan Ngami from Nairobi, and I visited your station to share my music,” he explained after introducing himself.
I inquired how he discovered Sifa FM and learned that he had been listening to the station online from Nairobi. He also followed the TWR Kenya and Sifa FM Facebook page to stay updated. He expressed admiration for the station’s gospel music and its active online presence, feeling that Sifa FM aligned perfectly with his values and could serve as a platform for his songs.
“I believed Sifa FM met all my requirements, not just because it was purely gospel but also because of its positive online presence and its connection to my homeland, Taita Taveta,” Jonathan remarked. He emphasized starting his music journey with his community and hoped that airing his songs on Sifa FM would open doors for him.
Jonathan revealed that he had lost his teaching job and was currently unemployed but was dedicated to pursuing his music career. As our conversation concluded, I wished him luck in his job search, and he promised to continue listening to Sifa FM online wherever he went.
Jonathan Ngami’s visit highlighted not only his passion for music but also his resilience in navigating life with a hearing impairment, finding solace, and hope in his community and Sifa FM’s support.
