I can't walk to Church but SIFA FM Marsabit brings the Church to me every Sunday.

Ms. Mary Amba during the interview.

Twr team visited one of Sifa Fm Marsabit listeners called Mary Amba, a resident of the hilly Manyatta Chile Village, Marsabit central sub-County, Marsabit County. Mary who is 28 years old was born with a permanent paralysis that has made her unable to walk. Mary lost her father when she was just a few months old and was left under the care her mother Anne Zainab. Since she was was born, every Sunday the family walked down faithfully to Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) St. Peters Church which is 2.5 kilometers from where they lived. As years went by it became impossible to ferry Mary down the hill or for her to climb up and down and that was when she came across Sifa FM Marsabit  Mary was elated, Church had come home, she did not need to trouble anyone to take her to church.

When Churched we closed down in 2020 during the covid period, Mary considered Sifa as her church and the listeners who called in frequently as the members of her on air church as they interacted freely on air.

Anne Amba, Mary’s mum intimated to us how Sifa FM Marsabit has turned out to be a proxy church to her daughter who is unable to attend church services together with other family members at ACK Church Marsabit owing to the rugged and steep terrain of their homestead Mary Amba is unable to crawl around except within their house.

We conclude the visit with a little token of appreciation for being a loyal listener by being given a gift hamper by TWR Executive director, Dr. Bernice Gatere.
