Marsabit Climate Shift: New Aquaculture Narrative in the Cradle of Mankind

By Geoffrey Otieno

In the heart of Marsabit County, where drought and dry winds have long defined life, something extraordinary is happening, fish farming is making waves!

Thanks to climate adaptation efforts, support from the Marsabit County Government, World Food Program (WFP), and passionate local youth groups, communities in North Horr, Saku, Moyale, and beyond are turning to aquaculture as a bold new path to fight hunger, poverty, and climate stress.

From earth-lined ponds to tilapia teeming waters, this initiative is not just feeding families, it’s building resilience and giving new meaning to life in one of Kenya’s most arid regions.
