Christmas has come early for Sifa FM radio stations as 2 of their staff, Albert Mwadime of Sifa FM Marsabit and Linda Akoth of Sifa FM Voi were on 3rd December feted in the first edition of Association of Grassroot Journalists Kenya (AGJK). Albert bagged 4 awards while Linda bagged 1 award. Albert won journalist of the year award, 1st runners up in Investigative reporting, 1st runners up in Covid 19 Impactful stories Category, and 2nd runners up In Agriculture and Food Security Category. Linda bagged an award in the agriculture and food security category.
“The feeling I felt the moment I was announced the Journalist of the year by the Media Council Chairman Mr.Maina Muiruri that night is unexplainable.It came as shock to me.I thought I would be among the finalist but not to win the biggest award of the night.All my career I never thought I will reach the levels of Journalist of the year but it came.To be honest till now I have not come to terms that I am the AGJK Journalist of the Year.I thank my employer Sifa Fm Stations and TWR for giving me an opportunity to serve in Sifa Fm Marsabit.I know if they never gave me an opportunity I could not have scooped the award.I also take this opportunity to thank Association of Grassroot Journalists of Kenya for starting this noble initiative.It gives journalist in the grassroot an opportunity to be recognised in the national level.” said Albert
“Well, am humbled and greatful.this being my first win after being runner up in several awards. This awards means a lot to me. It means that my work has been recognized as well as the impact of it being felt especially during this time that every one is working to make sure that the country is food secure. The objectives of AGJK is to form a vital network of community journalists, who will provide opportunity for skill development to other grassroots journalists. Their mission is to promote the flow of information and to inspire successive generations of talented individuals to become dedicated journalists.
