Halima Jirmo is a 24-year-old young lady, newly born again. She hails from Dub-Goba, Sagante-Jaldesa Ward, Marsabit central sub-county, Marsabit County. The third born in a family of seven, (five girls and two boys) is an orphan and narrates how she has gone through a lot of challenges in life. From losing her beloved father and the only bread winner to almost losing her eye sight in high school when she most needed it.
“I have been through a lot; at a tender age I lost my father. His loss hit me hard and I thought that was my end. Coming from a humble background, it has been difficult for my mother to provide for us, but she is a strong woman who inspires me to forge ahead in life and most importantly seek God’s face.” Said Halima.
She continued to recount the year 2016 when in form two when she started experiencing eye sight challenges.
“I started feeling a headache, eyesight pains, body fever, and pains all over my body. Whenever I tried to go to school to continue with my studies, I was not able to concentrate. My family attributed the challenges to spiritual warfare commonly known as black magic. My family tried all means possible for me gain back my eye sight but all was in vain in vain. I was taken to religious leaders for prayers, we sort traditional and modern medications in futile.” Explains Halima.
Halima expounds that after everything was not working for her, her mum and siblings were traumatized to the extent of losing hope, but they gave a push in their search for the much-needed healing. They sort help from the one they believed was the last resort and refuge that is Jesus Christ the great miracle-working Messiah and healer as they had heard from the radio and people’s testimonies.
“We had that a prophet of God from Ethiopia had visited a Church in Marsabit Town. My mum took me to the Church and truly I have never regretted taking such a bold step in life, no disappointments because my prayers were answered instantly, and from that day I was healed. I saw the hand of God doing marvelous things in my life that no man can do. From that day I received Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour and I am diligently serving Him.
Halima’s mother and some of her siblings gave their lives to Christ as a result of her healing.
She said that despite the fact that temptations and challenges have not ceased, she is holding on to her Saviour Jesus Christ for protection and guidance.
“I would like to continue with my studies and support my family. Currently, I don’t have a job, because I do not have academic papers having dropped out of school in Form Two due to an eyesight problem.” Said Halima.
When she got her eyesight back, Halima was willing to go back to school to pursue her dreams of being doctor but due to financial constraints that was not possible. She now stays at home looking after her siblings and helping her mother with home errands. She is currently looking for any job, to support my family.
She concludes by appealing to well-wishers or any other sponsor to assist her fulfill her childhood dream.
At the end of our conversation, she leaves our office excited after receiving a Borana bible to read, a radio to listen to the Word of God and other developmental programs to strengthen her spiritual life.
