Trans World Radio Kenya partners with The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to celebrate the inaugural World Kiswahili Language Day.

Trans World Radio Kenya has partnered with The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to celebrate the inaugural World Kiswahili Language Day (WKLD) in Kenya on Thursday 7 July 2022.

Trans World Radio Kenya (TWR Kenya) has partnered with The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to celebrate the inaugural World Kiswahili Language Day (WKLD) in Kenya on Thursday 7 July 2022.

The day was decided upon during the 41st Session of the General Conference of UNESCO (resolution 41 C/61) which recognized the role of Kiswahili language in promoting cultural diversity, creating awareness and fostering dialogue among civilizations and noted the need to promote multilingualism as a core value of the United Nations and an essential factor in harmonious communication between peoples entrenching unity in diversity and international understanding, tolerance and dialogue. Kiswahili is the first African language to receive such international recognition by the UN. The universal clarion call and theme for the day will be ‘Kiswahili for Peace and Prosperity.”

TWR Kenya, through its SifaFM network across Kenya, specifically Atoo Sifa in Kakuma, Maata Radio in Lodwar, SifaFM Marsabit, SifaFM Lamu, SifaFM Voi and Hekima FM for Garissa and Wajir. will celebrate the inaugural WKLD Tuesday 5 July 2022 and will culminate on Friday 8 July.

SifaFM stations will host and discuss with Kiswahili language experts, engage the public in a winner outcome Q&A to test their knowledge of the Kiswahili language while enjoying the day and inform the more than 3 million people who make up our audience base every day, on the importance of the Kiswahili Language their daily social, political, religious, educational, and cultural lives.
