TTB Testimony from our Akiroit Akuj Elosi ngarena Listener (Neno Litaendelea in Turkana)

In the remote village of Koolioro in Turkana County, we meet Sylvia Ameyen, a widow and mother of seven, who few years back was no stranger to hardship. Life had been a relentless struggle since the death of her husband seven years ago. Left with no stable source of income, she relied on small favors from neighbors and relatives and often found temporary relief in chewing tobacco. Her nights were restless, plagued by endless worries about her children’s future, sickness, and hunger.
One day, while visiting her neighbor to ask for tobacco, Sylvia heard something unusual, a voice coming from a small radio. It wasn’t music or the usual presenter chat, it was a program in her mother tongue of Ng’aturkana teaching about the Bible. Curious, she asked the elderly woman about it.
“It’s the Akiroit Akuj Elosi Ngaren (Thru The Bible ( TTB ) Turkana) program.” The neighbor explained with a smile. “It teaches about God and His promises. You should listen; it could help you.” She added.
Sylvia sat down hesitantly, her usual bundle of tobacco in hand, and listened. The Preacher’s words struck her heart deeply: “Give your life and burdens to Christ. He is the only one who can truly help.”
As the program went on, Sylvia’s mind raced. She thought about her struggles, her sleepless nights, and the endless weight of raising seven children alone.
That night, Sylvia couldn’t sleep, not because of worry, but because her heart was overwhelmed. She cried out to God for the first time in her life. “Lord, if You can truly help me, I give you my life. Take my burdens, and show me the way.” Her children, startled by their mother’s tears, were unsure what was happening, but Sylvia knew she had taken the first step toward a new life.
From that day on, Sylvia returned to her neighbor’s home every evening to listen to the TTB Turkana program. Gradually, her life began to change. She stopped chewing tobacco, finding peace, and fulfillment in God’s word instead. Her children noticed the transformation—a mother who had once been overwhelmed by worry was now hopeful and joyful. When the TTB team from Maata Radio visited Sylvia’s home to gift her a radio, she became overjoyed.
“This is more than a radio.” She said, holding it close her heart. “It’s my connection to God’s word and the source of my strength.”
With her newfound faith, Sylvia felt inspired to take charge of her life in ways she hadn’t before. Encouraged by messages from the program about diligence and trusting God’s provision, she decided to start farming. Though the arid Turkana landscape posed challenges, Sylvia worked tirelessly, praying over her fields and trusting God to bless her efforts.
Her hard work began to pay off. Sylvia’s farm started yielding enough to feed her family and even provide a small surplus to sell in the local market. The income has eased her burdens, and she can afford to send her children to school.
Today, Sylvia’s life is a testimony to the transformative power of God’s word thru Radio. She is no longer the worried, tobacco-dependent woman she once was. Instead, she is a thriving farmer, a devoted mother, and a woman of unshakable faith. Her children are proud of the strong, resilient woman she has become, and her story inspires others in Koolioro to trust in God.
“Before, I didn’t know who Jesus was,” Sylvia shared with the team during their visit. “Now I know Him, and He has changed my life. I sleep peacefully, my children are happy, and I know God is with me.”
Sylvia Ameyen’s journey is a shining example of hope and redemption. From the day she stumbled upon the TTB Turkana program, her life began a new chapter. She now serves as a beacon of hope in her community, proving that even in the most challenging circumstances, God’s love can bring transformation and triumph.
