Trans World Radio Kenya and SIFA FM are proud to celebrate another remarkable achievement after retaining the Best Radio Production Award at the prestigious Annual Media Excellence Awards 2026 organized by the Media Council of Kenya.
This year’s recognition was further highlighted by the outstanding achievement of Michael Kwoba the Station Manager of Sifa FM Marsabit, who was named Best Radio Producer, reaffirming our organization’s continued commitment to excellence in journalism, impactful storytelling, and high-quality radio production.
The award-winning feature was submitted as a collaborative entry by Michael Kwoba alongside Samuel Geno and Suzanne Mbodze. Produced through a partnership with BBC Media Action Kenya, the feature explored the intersection of culture, climate science, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in climate reporting in Marsabit County.
The story highlighted the growing role of emerging AI technologies in strengthening climate journalism while ensuring that the cultural realities, indigenous knowledge, and lived experiences of communities most affected by climate change remain central to the narrative.
Speaking after receiving the award, Michael Kwoba noted that the achievement reflects the value of collaboration and purpose-driven storytelling.
“This award is a result of partnership, teamwork, and dedication. Marsabit County is a region where climate reporting and culture are very serious matters, and with the emergence of AI technology, it plays a key role in climate reporting. We thank BBC Media Action for the support in ensuring we tell the most impactful stories.”
The recognition also reflects the consistency and strength of the production team at Trans World Radio Kenya and SIFA FM. Last year, Geoffrey Otieno won the same award through a joint entry with Suzanne Mbodze, while this year Suzanne Mbodze also emerged as 1st Runner-Up in the Tourism Reporting Category.
Speaking during the awards ceremony at Safari Park Hotel as the Chief Guest, Hon. Rebecca Miano – EGH, the Cabinet Secretary – Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife – Kenya emphasized the important responsibility of the media in ensuring accuracy and credibility in the era of Artificial Intelligence. She noted that while AI tools can enhance efficiency and expand the capacity of journalists, they cannot replace the integrity, fact-checking, and editorial responsibility required in news gathering and dissemination.
As media ministry, Trans World Radio Kenya and SIFA FM remain committed to producing journalism that informs, transforms, and inspires communities across Kenya and beyond. This recognition serves as an encouragement to continue Speaking Hope, telling impactful stories that amplify community voices, promote innovation, and address critical issues affecting society today.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our partners, supporters, listeners, and collaborators who continue to journey with us in advancing impactful media and storytelling.
