Many people listen to Sifa FM Marsabit radio, for various reasons. While one listens to the radio for entertainment that relieves the minds from depression and another to gain information that equips their minds with relevant know-how and skills. Not forgetting the vast majority who cling to the radio listenership to get news updates and a glimpse of what is happening where and when! For Mr. Wotto Umuro, reasons for listening to Sifa FM radio is more to all those. His reasons boils down to the matter of the heart!
It is evident that measuring the numerous impacts of Sifa FM Marsabit in the lives and hearts of listeners is a matter of slim chance. However, Wotto represents thousands of listeners who are inaudibly counting the blessings of the radio in their lives and families. They all live in different localities, come from different tribes, cultural backgrounds and languages but they all hold somewhat similar testimony of the transformational impact of the radio.
Mr. Wotto Umuro hails from Turbi, a small town, 121 kilometers, North of Marsabit town. He is one of the most devoted Sifa FM Marsabit enthusiast that I know. The pastoralist, deeply believes that radio can be a powerful tool that can transform lives and change destinies. In a phone interview, Wotto narrates to our breakfast gospel show host, why he chose to stick with Sifa FM Marsabit.
He was born in a catholic family and his father was a catechist. As he was growing up, his family seemed to portray some sort of an outward spiritual elegance but according to him, inner true picture of the family was a whole different thing all together. He lived a life of emptiness as he grew up and even began a family. His feeble Christian foundation could not stand the test of time, Wotto converted to Islam where he yielded fully to Islamic teachings under mentorship of famous sheikhs in the region.
Mr. Wotto sacrificed his resources and energy to live as a good Muslim, albeit without fulfillment. As a pastoralist, he spent most of his time alone taking care of his livestock where he also listens to the radio to overcome the boredom.
Lonely in the desert, Wotto kept thinking about his life and chose to listen to Sifa FM Marsabit to fight the boredom. Sifa FM Marsabit with time, became his friend and disciple.
One day he totally decided to turn away from his sinful life and turn to God. He called in the early morning show in the mid-January 2021 to inquire on the ways of drawing near to God. Wotto, thereafter gave his life to Christ together with his family members who were all formerly staunch Muslims.
In his conversation Wotto confidently proclaims that Sifa FM catalyzed his turn-around decision. Mentioning illiteracy as one of the major hindrance to his biblical knowledge and spiritual growth, Wotto desires to have Borana audio bibles which could boost his steps towards knowing God.
