The Madjirenna Show Is An Oasis.

The Madjirenna Show Is An Oasis.

Purposing to visit one of the Madjirenna Show die-hards, I ride on my motorbike to a remote village in Sagante. The dusty and bumpy road did not halt my craving for a conversation with Evangelist John Sarr. After a warm welcome, boom! The spontaneous discussions about Madjirenna began in a matter of minutes. The interview engine did not require an official ignition.  Ev. John serves in Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Sagante as an evangelist.

He is impressed with the Madjirenna program for three major things; one, it is a gospel show making it a conduit of hope to the residents of Marsabit and beyond.  It also addresses myriad societal matters from a biblical perspective- in other words the show instils deep Christian values into the society. Secondly, the fact it is done in a local language gives it a plus. It can reach the old and young of this county. Thirdly, Ev. John is impressed with Madjirena’s content as it involves sermons from different believers especially pastors, gospel music and deliberations that are meant to inform the general public.

“Whenever I move around I hear people commenting about the Madjirena, how useful it is,” The young preacher indisputably believes that the program is touching many lives, better yet during this time when there are no church services. “This show is an oasis . . . do you understand?” He says smiling pleasurably. Behind his smile, the seriousness and zeal for the gospel is unquestionably evident. Ev. John likens the show with an “oasis” because it is uniquely provides a fountain of hope in a desert of desperation. He lightly but on a serious note, comments that the program is a tool for evangelism therefore making it easier for him to reach the unreached. “In my work as an evangelist, I visit people to reach them with the gospel, majority of them invite me with questions that they got from discussions in the radio” he articulates before he adds, “this begins the conversation for me and therefore very easy to navigate around evangelistic discussions”.

In the midst of our interesting interview, I asked whether he has got something to recommend.  Ev. Sarr applauds Sifa FM for being unique in terms of bringing on board well refined preachers.  He however endorses that the sermons to be granted a longer airtime for they are so sweet. He attributes some of his young family’s spiritual growth to the Madjirena program- especially the sermons part. In terms of music, John recommends to have more hymns he however registers his gratitude for the fact that the program does not condone some “contemporary gospel songs.” He seems to lack inclination for such gospel genres. In his final words, Ev. John expresses his commitment to frequently and earnestly praying for the Sifa FM fraternity.
